National Reconciliation Week 2022 Stories for Simon School Visits

Students at Coogee Public School reading Stories for Simon

This year, Lisa and Lauren shared National Reconciliation Week with over 1,300 students across multiple schools, ranging in age from pre-school to Year 11. The students shared profound questions and thoughts, and showed empathy, respect and engagement. Most importantly, they communicated the ways they were being brave and making change to help build true reconciliation in Australia.
Some thoughts that came out of this year’s school visits: To Be Brave and Make Change, were: truth telling, story sharing, listening, making positive changes within ourselves and learning more about Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander culture

I just wanted to express again how amazing your presentation was. We are still talking about it a week later and it opened up many meaningful conversations with students
— Helene, Primary school teacher

Student feedback:
“Your presentation was inspiring”
“I love your book”
“My favourite part is when we read the book together”

This years theme; Grounded in Truth- Walk Together with Courage; was all about spreading the message that in understanding each other's stories, we all grow. Thank you to the amazing students at St Joseph the Worker Public School, Moriah College and Woollahra Public for embracing this opportunity and sharing the week with us.

Stories for Simon Visit Summer Hill Children’s Centre

Author and illustrator, Lisa Sarzin and Lauren Briggs visit Summer Hill Children’s Centre to read, draw and share stories with the children.

As Early Childhood Educators, we have the important role of ensuring our future generations know that they can make a difference in our world. Stories for Simon provides the opportunity for understanding of the past and the opportunity for engagement and meaningful discussions about how we as a community can move into an inclusive future.
